A crimson St. Andrew's cross on a white field, patterned after the Confederate Battle Flag, and adopted in 1895. The bars forming the cross must not be less than six inches broad and must extend diagonally across the flag from
side to side. Flag adopted in 1895


Alabama was the 22nd state to join the union.
It was settled in 1702 and entered the union on Dec 14, 1819.
The state capitol is in Montgomery.

Their nickname is: The Yellowhammer State
Their motto is: We Dare Defend Our Rights
Origin of state's name: Means "tribal town" in the Creek Indian language
