Our Trip to Montgomery
Montgomery is the capital of the State of Alabama, and is the county seat of Montgomery County. Named for Richard Montgomery, it is located on the Alabama River, in the Gulf Coastal Plain. Two ships of the United States Navy have been named after the city, including USS Montgomery (LCS-8).[10]. Montgomery has won several national awards including being voted Best Historic City by USA Today and being named an All-America City in 2014 by the National Civic League. Montgomery has also been recognized for its successful, and ongoing downtown urban renewal projects

While we were in the Pensacola Florida area we decided to drive up to Montgomery and meet with some friends that live in Tennessee. We had a great time. After checking into the Days Inn on Zelda St we went and had a great lunch at Zona Rosa Mexican Cafe . It is a great sit down restaurant with a great Mexican environment. Would love to go there again sometime. After a long lunch of catching up we walked around downtown a little and stopped to get a couple of drinks somewhere. Wanted to go see the Rosa Parks Library and Museum but it was closed. Hopefully we will be able to the next time we are in AL. Eventually, with our friends suggestion, we ended up having dinner at Jim n Nicks Bar-B-Q . It was great and we got a lot of food that we had to bring back to the hotel. We ended up finishing some of it later with some adult beverages, lol. It was nice to hang out by the pool and just talk and have fun.

The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel and then headed to the Alabama State Capitol. We all had a great time looking around at all the art work they have. We also learned that the present Greek Revival Capitol on "Goat Hill" dates from 1850-51 and replaced an earlier structure that burned, twice. In 1965 Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March led by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., ended on the street in front of the Capitol. In 1960 the United States Secretary of the Interior designated the Capitol as a National Historic Landmark. Our friends had never toured a capitol before, so it was cool to be able to share that with them. Hopefully they will want to the see more capitols someday. After lunch we stopped for a quick lunch before we said goodbye and headed back to Florida. We picked a restaurant that has been in the area for almost 100 years. It’s called Chris’ World Famous Hot Dogs. We had a couple hotdogs and sodas and headed back south. It was a great trip and was wonderful to see old friends.

Since we were only in Alabama for a short weekend, we didn’t have a lot of time to explore. However, below is a list of a few places that we think would have been fun to do or see while we were there. Hopefully we can check them out the next time we are in Alabama.
